    about to burn this car down. misfire issue

    1986 325e
    I just recently bought the car and the previous owner did alot of throwing parts at it.
    The car idles fine and will go up and down the entire rev range if i am very easy with the throttle.
    If i try to stab at the pedal or floor the car it will misfire like no other.
    Sometimes it wont even go above 3k rpms.
    The car does not have to be driven to make this happen either. Just from an idle the car will balrey rev and skip if i quickly poke the pedal. But if im nice and easy with it it will rev fine with zero issues.
    The car seems to have already been tuned up new coolant temp sensor afm looks to be from a salvage yard with yellow chalk numbers on it. New tps new fuel filter iacv was cleaned along with throttle body
    Have no idea where to even start.

    make sure the AFM is good and all 3 wires are plugged in inside of it. when i pulled mine apart to clean it i missed one of the spade connectors inside during reassembly and i was having what i would say is a similar issue.

      Bad fuel pressure regulator - Test pressure at rail before replacing.

      Bad O2 sensor - If it hasn't been changed, just replace it. They do wear out over time.

      Cap/rotor - Check for corrosion and pitting. Replace both if you find any.

      Plug wires - Visually inspect for cracks in jacket. If they are not soft and flexible, replace them.

      Smoke test for vacuum leaks. You can either take it some place for this or make a DIY setup.

      Clean the AFM - Lots of threads on this, search.

      Check that the TPS is adjusted correctly. Procedure here.

        Fuel pressure regulator is new
        O2 sensor new
        Tps new and adjusted correctly
        Cap/rotor plugs and wires are new with ngk copper plugs
        The p.o said it was smoke tested with no leaks but who knows.
        Probaly going to clean the afm and get it smoke tested and see what happens.
        Just looking for some more places to check into i dpnt wama throw parts at the car.

          Check cam position sensor and crank position sensor, make sure they aren't plugged in backwards to how they're supposed to be--the connectors on mine (325is) are identical.

          Could it be the plug wires are attached in the wrong order?

          Doesn't mean it isn't bad. The contact area wears out and that would maybe fit your description of how it revs up fine if you do it slowly.

          There's other crap, too: Fuel return line could be plugged up.
