    Electrical gremlin, help!

I'm putting a 1991 m20b25 into an 86 es chassis. Once I hooked up everything it started fine, cranked and immediately fired up, idled smoothly etc. Only thing not responding was the tach and econo gauge. So I followed the directions here for bridging the proper wires.

However when I went to test it out and turned the key all the lights came on as usual but when I turned the key instead of cranking everything went dark including the glovebox light. Is there some sort of master fuse I could have somehow popped? I took the key out and turned it again but none of the lights came on. Went and disconnected the battery, reconnected and the lights turned on as usual but again died when I attempted to crank. I have done literally nothing to the car since having it run and idle a that could have caused this. Any suggestions on things to check would be appreciated.

Battery is good, fuel pumps are both good, starter is new, and all fuses seem to check. I am so close to getting this car back on the road. R3V HALP!

This is going to sound elementary, but are you sure you have the right plug interface that the article is referencing? and you did make sure that you reversed that if you put the jumper on the back of the plug?

I am going to say that something went wrong in the swap. You'll need to consult the ETM for your 86 car and the ETM for a 91 to figure out what has been mis-wired. You can find the ETM's at http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
