Eta Engine Harness Wiring

87 325e. Trying to track down a problem in the wiring with my ECU/ICM from the coolant temp. sensor. The wiring diagrams I have show a direct connection between sensor and ECU. Where does the wiring run after it leaves the sensor? Directly to the ECU, or does it go to some sort of connector and then on to the ECU?
