2.7i build hard start cold, sometimes hot

    Hello,

I've recently done the 2.7i conversion on my 88 Seta and I'm now getting hard starting. When I try to start in the morning, it almost starts but the cel comes on and it dies. If I give it some gas while starting it revs like it's only running on 3 or 4 cylinders for about 4 or 5 seconds (cel still on) then the cel turns off and it stabilizes and idles fine. There's some smoke coming from the exhaust while starting, I don't think it's oil cause it smells like gas. Once it's started it smells like it's running rich. It mostly happens on cold starts, sometimes on warm starts.

    Specs:
Bosch Gen 3 19lb Injectors (remanufactured)
    325i fuel rail, fpr, afm
Sssquid chip for the 2.7i conversion tuned for 19lb injectors
    173 ecu
Just changed spark plugs (ngk ZGR5A)
    New fuel filter
    New Bosch o2 sensor

I tried doing the stomp test but it's not working so I think my tps isn't working, and I have also ordered a coolant temp sensor just to see if that will help.

    Anybody got any ideas?

    Thanks!

The first thing I'd check for would be intake leaks with a proper smoke test. In fact. when I build an engine or pull the head this is the first thing I do, before even trying to start it. I could have screwed up, a gasket could have ben damaged during assembly, etc. The smoke test tells all.

As yo your TPS see http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...7&postcount=24

In this case there could be other things going on as this is a hybrid configuration. But start with a proper smoke test at a shop.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
