    Another Idle Hell thread.

    Idle help!!!

Hi guys I usually just troll on r3v and offer advice but please help me. Past couple of weeks my idle has been kind of shitty. I doubt there are new vacuum leaks, but what was happening was the idle would hunt, say at a stoplight, go from 700, dip down to a little below 500, then back up, about 4 times and then it would stay at 700. Occasionally it would stay at 500 and just idle low.

    Dirty/worn ICV right? Sure.

No. Changed it out tonight with my spare clean unit, and now it doesn't hunt anymore but rather idles very low, I'd estimate at 400 rpm or so. Did a couple little quick tests, and it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the ICV. If I unplug it, nothing really happens, and plugging it back in results in one quick surge, then back to a constant 400.

If I unplug the TPS, however, the idle bumps up to a nice smooth 700ish rpm idle. Plug it back in, back to shitty idle. Haven't tried driving it with the TPS unplugged... Can I do this? Sounds like I need a new TPS? I'm hoping someone can help.

Also, is it possible to swap linkages from TB's? I have a nice TB with cleaner TPS in storage, but it has no linkage.... Can I swap my existing linkage over?

Please help guys, this car IS my daily.

TPS is a breeze to check. check for contiunity between one of the two outside pins (dont remember which one) and the middle pin at idle, and then the opposite outside pin and the middle one at WOT. if it fails either test replace.

its likely a heat related issue. my buddy had a heat sensitive TPS sensor that would cause his car to flat out die randomly. TPS tested good when cold everytime - took a while to diagnose that one lol
