Hadn't driven the ix in a few weeks so thought it would be a good day. Smelled a little fuel and thought, eh it's just cold. Then it got worse and worse. Pull into a parking lot and there's fuel dripping around the frame rail in the rear. Fuel hose is good and secure so must be an injector or something.
Then I realized the battery wasnt charged so I couldnt restart the car. Just as well since I didnt want to have a case of E30 flambe. So I had to call at tow truck for the first time since I've had this car (7 years). Didnt want to jump it and try to drive it home.
Get home and pull the fuel rail and injectors. One of the pintle caps falls down in the head. I stick the boroscope in there and there it is sitting on the valve. For the life of me i cant get it out - tried vacuum, sticky tape, 3 way grabber etc.
Then i decide to pull the intake. Forgot how painful it is to get at all the nuts. After all that I pull the intake and the pintle cap is gone. Mustve worked its way around the valve, which was open.
So i pull the plug and stick the scope down in the cylinder. NO pintle cap. wtf. I move the piston up and down but can't see it anywhere.
I feel unfulfilled.
These injectors have been cleaned/rebuilt once. I think it's time to just replace them. Will wait for parts and then see if i can find that darn cap.
I had read that most people just run the engine, but i have seen one story where the cap stuck in the valve and caused it to hit the piston. Would really like to find it while i have everything apart
