they are the same exact ecu for the 1000000000000000000000000time!
the smaller injectors, and the fpr combined with the lambda (oxygen sensor) make it all work.
    END!

I go with mike on this one. I've driven 320i's before and to me they feel slow and sluggish at times and to me swallow the same amount of gas. I would do the whole 2.0 to 2.5 swap if I was you. You won't regret it.

How do I spell stress relief?:hitler:

It is very thirsty, and yes you will notice, m20b25 will most likely take less than b20.
        Current:

        BMW 320i 2d 2.0 m20 -88
        BMW 325i Cabriolet 2.5 m50 -88
        BMW 316i touring 1.6 m40 -90
        BMW 320i 4d 2,2 m54 -01

I think it depends on your driving style really. I like to zip around when I am in an e30, and honestly get the same mileage with an m40/m10 318i as i do in an M20b25- I seem to always have the pedal almost to the floor in the 4 cyl. cars where the 2.5 requires a whole lot less throttle to accel. the same.
and yes, the dif. between a 2.5 and a 2.0 M20 is like night and day!!!!!

I want to do the swap to, but a 320i is a rarity over here in NA and I don't want to ruin that :(

Do the swap! I have had two 320is, one of which i swapped to a 2.5l. It totally changed the character of the car. It made it better on the autobahn, better in the city, better everywhere.

I have a 320i Touring here in Canada and no matter how rare this slowpoke is ... it's getting a larger heart, just unsure how big. Currently have 2 M30s in storage, one from a E28 (complete swap with brackets) and a M30 from the E34 but seeing how much work they require to install ... I might just go with the M20 swap and track the thing till it dies.

                  All this talk about ECU's...

Does anyone know if a b20 AFM and b25 AFM are the same? If they are both from a motronic 1.3 e30? I have a b20 AFM that came out of my 89 320i with motronic 1.3 and I wanna know if I can use it with my 2.7i build which will be converted to motronic 1.3 using a 164 325i ECU.

And on another note, Hopefully I will get rid of my m20b20 within the next couple of weeks for my 2.7i beast. I am sure I will be much more pleased :)

                    I had b20.

After trying to find a descent b25 I ended up with putting eta block and alpina ecu in there. The difference was enormous! After a year or so, I've put b25 stuff to go leavig the b20 head (modified though). Again - power gain was really noticable. Fuel consumption was too...

                      I have a B20 as well, ECU ends with 172. I thought B25 normally has 173 ECU?

I believe AFM has different number as well.

                      Anyway, B20 sux......

but, I'm some how happy with my clean b20, i have beaten a mustang on the high way.but i haven't tried the b25 and i bet it's a bit stronger.I've searched for b25 here in Yemen but no success, do you guys know how much the b25+shipping to Yemen will cost?
                        I'm sure it's a fortune.
