New fan, fan surges after a few minutes.

Alright so I got a new 16" 12v 120w fan, was using a 13" 12v 80w fan before. I wired it to the ac button because I no longer have ac. Now when I let it idle for a while, the car starts getting hot and the fan loses speed and fluctuates, The 13" fan would never do that so I'm wondering if I need a bigger fuse or if the fan motor is just bad. Thanks in advance.

What size wires? Are you using a relay? One speed or two? If you wire it directly to hot does it behave differently? Is the fan motor getting warm?

No relay, not sure what size wires, one speed, fan motor does get warm but this is Texas so everything gets warm.

If your wires are too small you will have a problem. If you are running straight through a small switch you may be toasting the contacts. Try wiring temporarily directly to hot with alligator clips and some 14 gauge wire or look up what wire size for the load you are running. why aren't you using the existing circuitry from your original fan?

I will try that, the car came wired this way with a pusher fan so I've been using the same wires. I think it's just getting too much power through too small of wires.
