ya seems like the BMW switch is pretty common when going to electric fans.
anyway, i think i'll just run the SPAL at 1 speed. it will be simpler. thanks guys

Which stock fan are you referring to, and do you have a link to that setup? Thanks.Leave a comment:

This video talks about using the volvo speed control/relay block, and coincidentally the guy talks about using a thermo switch from an e30 to pair it with. I went to the junk yard, picked one up and plan to do an electric fan conversion in the spring. Hope this helps!

If your wanting a 2 speed set up then wire both sides. For a single speed you just bypass the resistor and up the low speed fuse to 15aLeave a comment:

Another question. I'm assuming I would only wire the high side. What happens to the low side wire and does the A/C fan still work?Leave a comment:

The SPAL on high probably makes less noise than a stock fan on low and if your tstat is working I don't think you can "over cool". If you are determined to run it as a 2 speed just wire it exactly the way the stock fan was and Bob's your uncle.Leave a comment:

well, got a Volvo fan thinking it will fit but it won't fit our m20 + M42 radiator (not enough clearance between rad. and motor).
so now were deciding to go with a 14" spal and wondering if we could run the volvo 2 speed relay and new temp sensor that we already purchased? has anyone done this? i believe we have a 80* thermostat in there and the gauge always runs just under 1/2. i don't really want to run it at high speed all the time just because of the noise and possibly over cooling.
thank youTags: None
