Head gasket replacement and post issues

Finally got around to doing head gasket.
Had a nice coffee mayonnaise look to it.
Car sat for a couple of years.
Fired up within a couple of seconds...
Yeah.. sounded really bad, like clanging and dieseling.
shut it down checked valve lash.
Fired it back up.. no change...


tore it back down to see if I mistimed...nope..whew.


cleaned the IAC, fired right back up.. still sounds awful.

Symptoms:
almost sounds like metal on metal clanging.
dieseling sound.
it will idle, a little wandering idle(why I cleaned the IAC).
when I rev it up it, takes a while to come back to idle.


Any help would be greatly appreciated.
