    Shift Detent Cover Plate?

    What is the purpose of the shift detent cover plate? I have it as part number 23311228470.

      It retains the balls and springs that engage the shift rod detents (items 15 & 16 in http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3...shift_parts_2/)

          Awesome...thank you! Would where here prevent a car from going into gear? I have a transmission where I can't engage reverse.
