    Timing belt job, gaskets???

Hi everyone. I'm planning on buying an 87 325is. If everything goes according to plan, I'll own it next weekend. However the timing belt has no known history so I know I need to change it immediately, this will be my first time. I've been researching how to do this job and looking at the parts that I will buy. So far it looks like I will buy:

    Timing belt
    Belt Tensioner
    Tensioner spring
Water pump (hopefully comes with gasket too)

Not sure if I will get the camshaft seals yet, but there are other gaskets that I'm wondering about. Looking at the diagrams of the area, there is a rubber seal and a timing cover gasket in the area, but none of the guides that I see mention replacing these gaskets.

    #8 here https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_0405

    #9 here https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_4302

So should I just reuse these gaskets and seals? What is their purpose anyway? Is it just to keep water/debris etc from getting into the area with the timing belt?

#8 is an inspection cover, yours will probably be pretty old and hardened, but unless it's missing or you're restoring the car, you shouldn't need to change it. #9 doesn't get changed during the timing belt repair, and they rarely leak. I wouldn't worry about it.

Other things you should change while in there: the upper and lower radiator hoses, water pump-thermostat hose, fan clutch, and possibly the thermostat if there's no history of it. The belts are probably cracked as well, and there's no extra labor to swap them out.
