I've had my E30 since the summer and it always starts. The car especially in the cold takes about 10 min until the exhaust doesn't emit white smoke. The exhaust does not smell sweet so I think it's just water in the exhaust but i could be wrong. The engine's idle at 750rpm and I'm hearing a pinging sound in the video. Idk if this is normal or the engine's lifters need to be recalibrated (I did it first when I got the car but theres a possibility I may've messed up). My real concern is I'm wondering if the ping isn't from the lifters and is a indication that the engine needs a new head gasket, piston rings, or engine bearings. I was wondering if I could hear your guys thoughts. So far I've loved my E30 and I don't want her to live a while longer.

Also I'm going to do a leak down test sometime this week to diagnose the issue but I'm just curious to what the issue could be. -
I would check valve clearances first off. To me, that sounds like something rattling and not engine pinging. It may be flywheel chatter?
Also, keep in mind, even if valve clearances are within spec, the injectors on these cars are super loud.Comment

I’ll try to check the clearances of the lifters this weekend but I don’t think it’s the fly wheel. You can hear the chatter better thru the exhaust. Also my cat has a hole in it so that could possibly be the reason, not sure. The chatter is also linked to rpm of the car. You notice it at higher rpms. I can post a video of it and a video with the hood open. I’m aware the fuel injectors are really loud in these cars. That could be it. I just want to be sure my engine is fine. I very much appreciate the advice!Comment
