Barely passed NOx two years ago and had a feeling the 300,000 mile old catalytic converter would fail me this time; engine was rebuilt about 50K miles ago. Well, my smog place did a pre-test and it was 200 ppm over the limit
at 25 mph.
Well, BMW no longer sells remanufactured ones so had to settle for an after market one. The smog place told me not to waste my money on a complete system since aftermarkets generally are only good for 3 test periods. Convinced me to have it cut in place with the required replacement.
$290 later the NOx results blew me away; 1 ppm at both speeds. Only complaint is the exhaust is noisier; have a Stromung and did not want it louder.
