    cracked hose

    howdy,
i have an '87 325is and am looking for information and recommendations at addressing a cracked hose.
    - the first pic shows a close up of the crack.
    - the second pic shows it a bit further back.
    - and the last pick shows totally zoomed out (but not of my car).

    questions:
    - what is the hose that is cracked?
    - what is the part that this hose is connected to? (shown on second pic)
    - can i simply replace the cracked hose and how difficult of a job is that? i am a n00b.

the leaking liquid seems to be coolant but i'm hardly expert enough to know for certain. what do y'all think it is leaking? i observed that the leaking liquid is falling onto the belts below (shown in second pic).
have also been noticing some new "jerks" coming from the rear wheels as progressing up through the gears mostly around higher rpms in 3rd and 4th. could it be related to the wet belts?

the hose connects down to your water pump. not to hard to replace, just catch the coolant that comes out when you take it off (better to replace when motor cool) and get new clamps with it

Looks like #3 as seen here:

Part number 11531287651. Rock auto has them for $10, but you can probably get one locally at the auto parts store.

Auto Parts for Your Vehicle at Reliably Low Prices. Fast Online Catalog. DIY-Easy. Your Choice of Quality. Full Manufacturer Warranty.

When you disconnect the hose, be prepared for lots of coolant to come out, like a gallon or more. After replacing the hose, you will need to refill the system and bleed it. Search the forum for a how-to, it's been covered many times.

You might considering buying a coolant hydrometer to check your coolant concentration. You want it to be somewhere near 50/50 water/coolant. They look like this and are cheap. Get one form the auto parts store.
