    E30 Fuel Pump Assistance

    Hello fellow E30 peps!

Well I am trying to help a fellow E30 owner with what I believe is a bad fuel pump. I havnt checked the relay yet.

Is the same fuel pump used on a I and an E? Is there really two fuel pumps on an E30? Or only one?

My next step will be to check his Fuel Pump Relay and then check the intank fuel pump I guess. I dissconnected the Fuel lines from the fuel rails and found no fuel pumping out when the car is started.

Thanks for any help guys and gals!

Jump the relay, thats the easiest way to check.

If you have never jumped one, ask me and I'll shoot some pictures for you real quick.

If you jump it and the pump works, you have a bad relay. If not, you may have a bad pump or possibly a bad electrical connection at the pump.

Your 86 325e has two pumps. One pump under the rear seat (car will run without this) and the main pump in front of the drivers rear wheel. The pump is not the same as those used on the 'i' cars.

If you find that your intank pump is not running (the one not entirely required for the car to run), then you should replace it as it will eventually cause failure of the main pump.

Well my car is an 86 325e. The fuel pump has gotten really loud.

My friends sons car is an 89I. His car is the one thats not running. I disconnected the feed line and return line from the engine. No fuel being pumped.

So for my car, what Im hearing is just replace both fuel pumps. That way it wont be a problem.

For my friends car are you saying the I model only has one fuel pump?

Thanks for all you guys help.

The 89i has only one fuel pump - it is in the tank.
