    rough idle

hey guys my car has a bad idle but not all the time its kinda rough always but sometimes it feels like its about to die and then kinda revs back up it stays at about 800 then will jump to 1300 maybe then back to 1000 or 800. does this mean my timing is off? can i fix the thottle cable to help smooth it out thats what i heard you can do?i hope this is all making sense.
    thanks for any help

Even though this is in the wrong forum, I'll contribute.

Check the air hose lines for vacuum leaks.

Ditto on the vac lines .

But I would also give the Idle control valve some attention .
Thats the silver cylindrical attached the intake by a hose just above the valve cover .
Unplug it and take off the hose to detach it .....then spray the insides pretty good with carb cleaner/brake cleaner and shake it up pretty good .
After its thoroughly flushed out squirt some wd-40 or something similar into it .

Reinstall and you should be set .
