has to be a way to fix rockers w/out head removal?

So i JUST put a brand new timing belt on and realllly don't want to have to take the head off and do it all over again just to fix a rocker. its the #1 intake rocker that broke. How much stuff off the front of the car has to come off so I don't need to remove the head.

the rocker is on top of the head anyway, take the valve cover off and you will see them all there (unless there is another cover for them) just unbolt the old, lube the new and replace, torquing to factory spec :)

You have to tilt the engine so that rocker shaft can clear the core support.

Hood must be removed, and motor mounts must be removed

If you need more travel, you can lower the transmission

Have you worked on an m20 before? I doubt it.

I'm fairly certain you wouldn't want to remove the motor mounts from the car, but definitely unbolt them completely so that the engine can pivot. Removing the motor mounts would have the engine setting on the subframe (bad) and also drop it down so that you end up hitting the core support anyway (also bad). This is all mostly speculation, but it makes sense since it would be somewhat difficult to remove the mounts without having a hoist.

oh yah, BEFORE you take the motor mounts off, support the engine using a hoist or other means

ok so i think i got the gist of it, i'll have to get the car to somewhere I can do this work via towing it on a dolly.

It is possible to drive it, if its an intake valve. pull the injector plug (so it wont add fuel) and take it easy driving it (before you do that, remove all broken rocker pieces)

note, that is not recommended for more than 10 miles or so

i will put the engine on a hoist then to do this. I think I am going to sell the BMW and all the parts I have collected but I am not sure. I love this thing and it puts a smile on a my face everytime I drive it. However things may get tight depending on if I can find another job after summer when school starts.

You also need the timing belt and cam gear removed to pull the rocker shaft.
