I've browsed through several articles on idle issues but haven't seen one close to mine other than a similar report for the m42 engine. Ive checked the air intake boot and clamps for vacuum leaks and recently replaced the rubber elbow(cracked) to the icv which I thought would fix the problem but it didnt. Right now the idle is good but if I give it a quick jab of gas the rpm will dip down and sometimes it is on the verge of dying. If i accelerate smoothly and let off the throttle, this still happens very slightly but nothing compared to when giving it a quick jab of gas. Air filter, spark plug, wires, rotor , cap are all new. Would this be a fuel delivery problem? Thanks

My 89 does this (has Miller MAF) and my 87 did the same- just a characteristic of the engine managment system I believe.
Sounds like you looked the car over well, I would try cleaning the
idle control valve with some wd40 and see if it improves.
I'm going to clean mine one of these days and see if it helps.

I'm a bit unclear. Are you saying it stumbles right when you jab the gas, or does it rev first and then almost die before settling back on idle? If the former, I'm not sure. If the latter, I'd say you still have a vacuum leak somewhere. The current fleet:
