    misfire

i just got my first e30, its a 89 325i 160k on it, .. well ... it is missing really bad, since im new to the car i replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs because of the misfire, but also to start fresh there ( also got the timing belt and all that but im waiting till i get it running right)..

with all the ignition parts replaced it doesn't seem to be firing on cylinder 6 or 3.. and from what search told me , its probably bad on 1 as well which means its the plug under the throttle body causing the injectors not to work in every other cylinder..

taking it into the shop tomorrow to see what we can find, but i wanted to ask if there was any other possibilitys to check out, so that if its not the plug, then we have a head start and some where to start looking.

help me chase down this problem so i can start working on the next thing that breaks once this is fixed.

Was the car sitting for a while before you got it? My MR2 did the same thing, I struck the injectors with a screwdriver or wrench, whatever was in my hand and it free'd them up.

You should try running a compression test if you have the resources. That could tell you alot. And hook up a vacuum gauge. You should be able to determine weather or not its a mechanical miss with either of those tools.

thanks for the replys guys,... i just wanted to update since i searched ( for some reason the search on this sight isnt too helpful to me or im doing something wrong) but everything i found that was close to what my problem was never had a solution..

my solution was basically the cap and rotor were really toast. took them off and the center pin on the cap was gone new cap and rotor with some plugs and it was good to go..

the car is an 89 and has 140,000 on it and it didn't look like the timing belt has ever been touched!!! glad it didn't break while i had the car, did all the belts the cap the rotor and plugs and wires, new coolant and oil, and new temp sensor and a new radiator hose, runs great now!!!
