    oil pan drain plug

i did my tuneup on my ETA this weekend. seafoamed the intake, oil, gas. oil change. topped out the rad, etc etc. it runs great now btw.

but on my oil change, the drain plug bolt i had ordered from bavauto didnt fit. so had to re-use my existing drain plug. luckily it did not leak even though i had chewed up the threads on it because it was stuck on my socket when i took it out. knock on wood.

anyone know if there are different sizes for the oil pan drain plug for the m20? and where i can get it? i suppose i can still get it at bavauto but under a different car.

That's very strange. They probably sent you a wrong plug. Most (if not all) BMW's have the same drain plug, from old E12's up to X5's. Yours is included.

this is the first bmw i've ever worked on so i did not know most drain plugs are teh same. the drain plug i took out from my car had a headbolt of 14mm.

the one i ordered from bavauto had a 17mm head. but a diameter bolt.

Is the head of the bolt the only difference? It should be a M12x1,5 bolt. If the bolt is proper, the head doesn't really matter as long as it fits. They all are, except for the new 3 E9X and 6 E6X series.

Alright, that's a wrong bolt. You should return it or just get another one when you next change your oil if your current bolt is fine.
