aluminum radiator first
then get the electric fan, to reduce drag
intercooler,
synthetic oil
or you can just get a lower temp thermo that kicks in faster.

taking the thermostat out can sometimes increase temperatures because the collant flows through the radiator too rapidly to be cooled. you'll probably have to experiment. or ask some specE30 guys. in the spec miata crowd a fair number of guys pull the thermostat and replace it with a restrictor (think: round plate with a hole in it). that might be a better option.

I'd say not to take the thermostat off completely.
When I bought my 325i, the guy had the thermostat off, the coolant was flowing all the time, and the motor was cold most of the time. It didnt even reach the second line on the gauge.
And to get it there I was driving for like an hour or something ( leaving it at idle for more than a minute is very risky, for every car ).
The result was to have a rocker break cos the motor never reached its needed temperature to function properly, and given the fact that I kinda abused it ( I thought it would be cool to run it with the gauge being at the second line ), the rocker gave me shit :D
I suggest going the other way, either getting a better radiator or something else, and not the cheap way, cos you could pay a lot more afterwards if something goes wrong.

Completely removing the thermostat is not a bright idea on a street car. The engine will be very slow to war up and may never reach operating temperature. We can get away with it on a race car, partly because they aren't many events in cold weather and partly because we can warm the car up in the pits with the fan off before hitting the track. So the car never really sees any power operation.
If the cooling system is clean, all parts are operating correctly, and there's not a head gasket leak an M20 engine won't have any overheating problems. If you are experiencing overheating you need to fix and fix the problem(s) that are the cause. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
