This is what I'm looking for, thanks. I'll definitely give that a try
you dont need to be an expert to say head gasket = white smoke. Thats what they read you in the text books. It turns out to be just a very bad multiple vacuum leaks. I'm not saying "oooo your wrong dumb ass", but I am saying I'm looking for something other than the obvious. I'm not a newbie, so its like saying " you have cable internet and it went down, and you call comcast and everyone tells you to reset your modem..." I'm pretty sure everyone's been there. Or your computer crash, and everyone says reinstall window... Hell I can rebuild my whole motor, and I'll get rid of the problem.
No I wasnt arguing... all I'm saying is "its not the problem, anyone can think of anythign else? the motor runs fine and it idle's smooth.
the problem is solve now, thanks for everyone input.
SUPER DUPeR PROBLEM. HELP!

So... you ask for advice, several experts tell you with reasonable certainty what the problem is, and suggest a sure-fire way to find out using a $20 tool (which you can rent/borrow for free), and you spend 2 pages arguing (and probably spending more than $20 fixing phantom causes)?

It has nothing to do with the o2 sensors.
There are 2 things that will make the coolant bottle bubble. A bad head gasket, and air in the cooling system. I suggest you bleed the cooling system properly before you CAUSE a bad head gasket.Leave a comment:

welll..
well.. its hard tos ay even now, this morning I pull it up and it was fine ... no smoke or nothing. then there is some intermitent smoke... but alot less than yesterday.. so maybe it could be o2
everyone always scream head gasket for everything white smoke... even non mechs will say the same when they see white smoke...
I had the same happen on my seven and every shop I took to say head gasket... it turns out its just the oil pcv tube. Good thin I didnt do head gasket on the v8...Leave a comment:

sOOOOOOOO
So after we got the new boot and fix all the vacuum leak etc. it only took us a good 3 hours to pop on and pop off the intake, since now I know wehre everything goes...
At cold it runs nice, as it warms up the same steam is blowing out the header and the exhaust... At first it smells like its just burning rich, then later the smoke becomes more consistent... the scariest part is my coolant cap reservoir place is smoking...
Anyone?Leave a comment:

code
code came out to be 1223 coolant temp sensor. Now I'm not sure if this was the coolant temp sensor for the ECU or the one that goes to the cluster...
Got all the parts... worst case worst... going to rebuilt it and beef it up or m50 here it comes. Regardless, I'll figure it out... its not the money spent fixing it, but rather, money spend that could be toward an upgrade. So I'll do the simple things to see if we can get lucky... if not, I might do stroker or m50.Leave a comment:

-Do you have any mechanic freinds/neighbors/relitives with some test equipment? Ask around.
-As far as the white smoke/steam out of the exhaust, it prob is coolent. The only place coolent and combution mix is in the head. Sorry, I know that's not good news.
-Or you can take the car to a shop and have it diagnosed for about $50-100. Just be honest with them and tell them you need it diagnosed.Leave a comment:

Possibility there is an air pocket in the system? Did the temp gauge read "HOT"? Were you guys ever able to pull the codes?Leave a comment:

actually, i thought about that.
Thanks for the info.
I already thought about the fact taht if it was running super hot taht it blow the gasket. Its definitely a possiblity.
BUT! AKA "I do this for a living" ___underline ___ I have all the tools at my disposal and I can do all the test and knows how...
I'm not so loaded with knowledge and tool, so I need simple guess and check solutions. Unless you want to drive up and hook me up... or send me a super DIY, I wont be able to do it myself.
Basically, take everything apart and put it back together even more carefully and drain the coolant and try again. Well... if the coolant is milky then its absolutely the head. If its just the engine oil... it could have seep from elsewhere.Leave a comment:

-Stop guessing! DO a compression test and FIND OUT if its a bad HG. Also do a coolent leak test to see if there are any external coolant leaks. The car will idle and run terrable if it has vac leaks, so fix those to get a good start on more diagnosis.
-It not too terrably "unlikely" that the HG did blow. Just because it was running ok before... I mean, it has to go at one time or another. Also, what work did you do to the car? If its running too lean the engine will run HOT and that MAY have cause the HG failure... if that's what the problem is at all.
-btw I do this for a LIVING. ;)Leave a comment:

a ripped intake boot isn't going to make you consume coolant.. but whatever.Leave a comment:

yep
yea, thats exactly what I was thinking, you read my mind. Everyone is always going to say head gasket... but how it was running fine. Nothing was touch. It was good. And then all of a sudden its leaking like nobody's business from firing up... its pretty unlikely. so yea fix the obvious then I'll see.Leave a comment:
