    I need some help

I want to turn my 1987 325e with standard (manual) transmission into a 325i I have an 1988 325i engine wiring harness and computer but its an automatic. I also have an 1989 325i parts car with bad engine, automatic also. What would I have to change to make the engine fit?

It's basically a bolt on process.

Use all of the electronics from the 325i engine (harness ecu, etc) and all of the other accessories from the i engine as well.

If the coolant reservoir is on the pass side of the car, you will need to either swap the complete thermostat housing from the Eta to the i engine or completely swap in the cooling system from the 88+ car.

You Also need to take the flywheel and clutch from the Eta and swap it onto the 325i engine. On the eta engine the crank reference sensors are in the transmission bell housing. just remove those, sell or discard them. The reference sensor on the i engine is on the front of the crank.

It's really straight forward. If the O2 sensor is good on the b25 then swap that out too or get a new one for the year of engine harness you are installing because the plugs will be different.

Only part that you might have some trouble with is wiring up the C101 and possible the C104 if it's integrated into the c101 plug on the engine harness. DO NOT just plug the c101 in without verifying if the wiring is correct or you will have a nice melted mess to fix. I will upload pics of the c101 connectors and wiring info for the c104.

Your c104 plug has 3 wires
      Pin #1 Black Wire-Engine speed
Pin #2 green wire-OBC Fuel cut function
      Pin #3 Yellow/White wire-Fuel rate
On the 89 harness you'll need to splice or connect the following wires to the ones on the c104.
      Pin # 3 from c104 to Pin 8 on the c101 of your 89(Yellow/White or White/Black wire)
Pin #2 from the c104, run a wire from directly to the + terminal on the coil(Green wire)
Pin #1 from the c104 to pin 9 on the c101(black wire)

The diagram for the 86 should be correct for the eta. The other diagram should be correct for either of your i engine harnesses.

-I would get a i-specific flywheel. They are lighter, iirc.
