    Coolant senser ?????

I've been having problems with my 87 eta running like crap. When i got it it wouldn't even idle and had a noisy fuel pump. I replaced the pump and filter and the AFM and it idled fairly fine (had a small lope to it). But then it wouldn't run very well going down the road. So i've been messing with it over the last few days and replaced stuff off of my 85 eta that ran fine and put on this 87. I replaced the 007 ecu with the 027 and replaced the intank pump and all of the coolant sensers. And it still ran like crap (lopy idle, missing, backfiring).. I unpluged the coolent senser that's under the bottom of the one for the gauge in the dash and the car runs smooth and goes through the RPM's like it should. Is this the one for the ECU? That would make the car run bad if it was faulty? Although i took it off a good running car.

That is the temp sensor for the DME. Since the engine runs better with it disconnected, my suspicion would be that you have intake leaks. I think the DME reverts to an A/F map (richer) for a cold engine when there's no temperature data. If there's a intake leak the engine would run better with the richer mixture.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I sprayed starting fluid all around the intake. And the idle stayed the same. Cause i thought it was a vacume leak at first that was causing it to run like it was.

Mine don't have that connector. I think cause it's a early car. But i'm goin to trace the wires from that senser to see if there is anything wrong with them. Thanks

Well my eta was having a weird problem like this. After it would get hot, at idle it would run horribly rich, black cloud out the exhaust. It would also surge on accel. So I changed the Air meter, crank sensor, then tried the coolant sensor and that fixed it. Im getting better gas mileage also. It ran so bad at idle, I couldnt get it moving. Coolant sensor is like 20$ for a new one
