    m20 q's

so when i start up my 325 cold or warm, it starts hard. well my last m20 powered e30 was the 325i and it started with a quick turn of the ignition. but on this one it takes a couple of seconds for it to come to life. why does it start hard if it does? and when its warm it idles like at 600 rpms and dances a little but never revs too high or too low, it stays constant. and it kicks a little like putt putt almost all the time. im thinking its the fuel filter?

And one last question is has anyone noticed a pause or loss of power around the 1800 to 2500 rpms? it happens to me when i shift to second and let the clutch go, it pauses but then the power comes back. why does this happen?

thanks for any input to my problems!

check fuel filters, then maybe get a fuel pressure guage and see whats going on there..if that is low, a fuel pump might be in order.

Are you talking about the 87 or the 91? On the 91 it's easy access. Right in front of the rear driver's side wheel. On the '87 it's on the engine bay, right in front of the brake booster.

just a little more info on my fuel or engine problem. it sometimes revs up when its idling. my uncle says that might be the timing. is that true? i strongly doubt that it is the timing, but its always good to know whats going on.

and what is the correct idle speed for the super ETA? my idle hangs right above the 500 rpm mark, my uncle has also diagnosed that its the timing but, again, i really doubt that it is.....

thanks for all the info i really appreciate it.

Most likely a vacuum leak somewhere.

I vote vacuum leak, check the L-shaped connecters near the throttle body, and all the rubber lines you can find. Those litte connecters were loose on mine. A little sealant fixed that.
