    89 325i wont start

Hey Guys suddenly the other day outside the front of my house my 89 325i refused to start. Its turning over when i crank it but it just won't fire up. I am hoping i can get some input heres what i have done so far.

1.checked for a spark coming from the wire coming from the ignition coil but i didn't see one coming out so i thought it was the ignition coil. I swapped the ignition coil with my 325e 86 ignition coil but my 89 one worked on the 86 so it can't be the ignition coil.
    so ignition coil is out.

2.I took a look at my fuses and everything looked up and running.
    so i don't think i blew a fuse.

3.i heard some times the fuse relay might come out of place so i took a gander played with it a little but to no avail it is possible that i blew on of the relays but i do not know how to confirm that.

    4. I have fuel in my car and i don't smell or see any leakage although i cant fill up my tank it can only fill it up half way at the pump and it stops and if i try to put more in it overfills so either my gauge is messed up or something in my tank is. either way i filled up like 2 days before the incident so i don't think its the fuel.

5.i swapped the spark plug wires in the 89 with spark plug wires i had replaced from my 86 which should be working but that didn't work either.

    6. i took out my distributor cap and ignition coil they were a little beat up but i lightly sanded them down on the brass to take some gunk off and they looked like new and that didn't work. actually i also changed the distributor cap with a slightly used one i had from my old 86. All these parts from the 86 are the same according to there part numbers.

This is my opinion but i do not think it is the spark plugs because i can't see all 6 going out at the same time and my engine wasn't running bad before it was just kinda developing this cold start problem. My dad thinks i may of shorted something because recently i installed some fog lamps on because my old ones lenses were cracked. I had to splice the wires but right after i installed them (they don't work right now by the way) i tried to start my car and it didn't work it could be a coincidence but my father feels otherwise. So with all that said you are all up to date with what i have done and my thoughts on the subject. :-D Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

No spark when cranking the engine is probably going to be from a lack of power to the DME (main relay/fuse or ignition switch), lack of timing reference data to the DME (bad CPS), or a bad DME. A failed coil would be in that list, but you eliminated it as a suspect by the swap.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Agreed. If you get spark and it still doesn't start, time to check fuel system
