oil light

hi,
my oil light came on tonight as a i was getting off a ferry. I was less than a mile from the house so I when i got home i poured a quart of oil in the car and the light went off and I am back to normal...
Is my car in trouble? or am I good since i poured the oil in?

What oil light? the one under the temp gauge, or the one above the mirror?
