    thermostat

ive been driving my car for about 2 yrs with either no or stuck open thermostat. In winter i have to let my car warm up for like 20 mins just to get out of the blue, and then as soon as i drive it goes back to the blue. i think its time to get a new one. how hard is it to change the thermostat? what do i have to remove?

very easy. trace top coolant hose to the engine. remove the cover (3x 10mm bolts). ideally you want 10mm socket on some long-ish extension. replace thermostat. put the cover back on. done.

i'd recommend making 1mm hole on top of thermostat (in as close to outside as possible, on very top as possible)

no, you just need the brand new thermostat. it should come with new thermostat oring. if not then i guess you need to buy it separately. you do not need those other gaskets...

all my coolant looked perfect, but on the old thermostat there was a thin layer of slimier thicker coolant. is that okay?
