Oil leak/ how to do a oilpan on a e30?

    hey, i got 2 problems

    (1) how can i replace a oil pan on a 325i, it looks like a lot of work,and time i dont have,subframe,rack &pion?

    (2) car is leaking a lot of oil from the block. its coming right off the block.
    anyone had a similar issue?

    anyone? thanks eric

dude, run a search for the oil pan process then post or pm for specific questions :). the block leak is normal if its from the front i believe -you can search that as well.

The cam seal, main seal, valve cover gasket, oil pressure sensor, oil filter adapter, or power steering system are more common causes of oil leaks. Before accusing the pan gasket, you should throughly clean the engine and identify the source of the leak by watching for the first sign of oil.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That is your shortcut. I can explain it to you, but it would take just as long as it would for the Bentley guys and they have pictures. If you want to work on your car yourself it will pay for itself almost immediately.

I second what jlevie states. Take off the aluminum tray that covers the bell-housing and degrease the engine from front to back. The source of the leak could be almost anywhere given that oil follows crevices, wires, vaporizes and spreads all over the place at highway speeds. Clean then observe.

Also, you may be able to diagnose if it is the oil pressure switch by observing it while the engine is running. When mine went it wasn't immediately obvious until someone suggested that, and then you could see that it produced a steady drip, where as with the engine off I only ever saw a static drip on the OPS wire.

i have a bentley for the e28, it has the m20 in it, but to be honest from what ive heard all is involved i would be baned from doing it here.
regarding the leak, it leaks when the car is on & off, so i know its not a main seal.

                thanxs

thank you, the leak is on the left side of the block near the firewall.
