so i am getting power to my coil and it is producing power when the ignition is on however their is no spark also i have tried changing the main relay fuel pump relay and the crank position sensor. I have also tried swithching the two sensor plugs between each other. The engine in the car is an 87 m20i from a cabrio and the chassi is an 86 325es i had wired in the new plug from the 87 their in only one wire that i do not know what it does it is brown with a black strip any suggestions for me to get spar? OH yeah and the engine has been replaced becauce of an engine fire and yes the gounds are connected. and it was previousally an automatic

an easy way would be to swap out the computer with one that you know is working. another way would be to do the stomp test. you have the lambda control on your car since you did the "i" conversion. what you do is turn the ignition to the run position, not run. then push the gas pedal 5x at equal intervals and then the check engine light should come on and start flashing codes. so count the number of times it flashes the first time, then when it pauses and starts flashing again count how many times it flashes. and do so until it stops flashing. i wish i had an "i" so i could do this and find out whats wrong with mine.

so come back with the codes.

did you press it five times?

well if nothing happens then you dont have lambda control hooked up to your car.

but like i said, a simple way to test the computer is to swap in a computer that is know to work.

yeah i think i am just going to get a new harness and dme and like fuse box and everything becasue the chassi got pretty fried and the harness i think may be fucked on that engine becasue I have tried so many different things but i think i am just going to get a new everything electrical including the body harness so theri will not even have to be any re wiring issues or any problems revolving around the previous fire
