how does the oil cooler mount to the rad support?

Well, I am going to try to reinstall an oil cooler on my car. Alas, I've forgotten how it mounts to the radiator support! If it matters, I have a late model car.

I know there are two plastic brackets that attach to the radiator support via two speed nuts and screws. These plastic brackets clearly mate to the end brackets of the oil cooler somehow...

The brackets also have speed nuts installed in the bottom, but I can't figure out how they mate up to the oil cooler!

Any pics or descriptions would help! I am sure I have the rest of the oil cooler mounting parts in a box or bucket somewhere, but I need a little help on what these parts look like.

Well. I've figured it out myself.

There is an early and late style oil cooler. I happen to have an early model oil cooler for a late model car. ARGH.

The difference is, the end brackets are roughly horizontal on the late model, but roughly vertical on the early model.

On my wifes '89, it was the same as my '87...2 plastic nubs that the cooler sat on, then the lines were clamped in place...I think it was the same, I dunno for sure.

Is there a high temperature zip tie that I can use? By any chance, do you have a BMW part number? Would Patrick at BMA know what I'm talking about if I call him up?

There are hi-temp zip ties that you can buy, as at Bombardier they used them to tie wires inside the heaters on the subway. The ones we used were green in colour, sorry that's as much as I can give you.

So, I mounted the old-style oil cooler to a late model radiator support. The same drillings are present. You need

(2) body nuts, 07129925742
(2) hex head screws, 07119916886
(4) flat washers, 51436440260
(2) rubber grommets, 17111117442
(2) spacer sleeves, 07146977328

So you slide the body nuts into the appropriate slots on the outside, install the rubber grommets onto the ends of the oil cooler, then insert the screw into the rubber grommets using a flat washer, a sleeve, then another flat washer, then screw it into the speed nut.

PS I broke a nail while doing this. Horrors.
