    What?

When you have any gear engaged, releasing the clutch has no effect? Is that what you're trying to say?

lol no no.. sorry i couldn't explain my self, the car runs fine just that when i put it in any gear it feels like its on neutral the shifter moves sides to sides, i guess the guides in there broke or something.

Wow Kate, trying to act all smart again? :p

Kate MAY be right....unfortuntely for me, however, it's also possible that something is broken. Is your shifter always really loose when in gear? Like, does the stick wiggle all around? (ha...)

i can sell you a complete Z4 2.5 short throw swap, you'll just need the 2 $15 mount bushings from akg motorsport. it will fix that feeling you get in neutral...

Half of that play could be in the shifter rod joint too. If you are going to fix it, do it all at once.

Does the transmission have to be out of the car to fix any of this? I've heard that makes it easier but can you do it with out taking out the transmission?

no, but you maybe need to drop the exhaust and/or driveshaft

More room definitely makes the job easier but there is no need to drop the tranny. The bushing on top of the tranny is a bitch to get the clip off of so take your time and do it right. Grab the AKG bushings. You won't be disappointed.
