    Crankshaft position sensor

Hey guys, so my car has trouble starting about 85% of the time. I believe it is due to the crankshaft position sensor. I bought the sensor, thinking it would be easy to replace, then I check ALLDATA to find that I have to remove the fan and several coolant hoses to get to it. Is this accurate?

Yes. The wiring for the CPS runs under a plastic retainer that cannot be removed w/o removing the fan and water pump pulley. The coolant hoses aren't really a problem.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

With the right tool for removing the fan it's still a very very simple job.

does BMW have a fan clutch wrench specific for the E30? That would probably make it easier. When I took it off last time at my friend's shop I couldn't get one to secure it properly.

Yeah, IIRC, it's a 32mm thin profile wrench.... Just make one yourself out of some flat stock... srsly

With no fan there, I was able to push the coolant hose out of the way and remove the water pump pulley. and get the wire in there. Course, in the meantime, I managed to break the clips holding it on.

Or, you could be lazy like my brother, and just run the wire over the head and cut the old one. LOL
