So Ive got the valve cover off and #1 cylinder is at top dead center. My Haynes book says to turn the crankshaft 120 degrees or 1/3 and adjust cyl #5. I under stand the firing order, but Im allittle confused. Can someone explain it allittle better ? Ive done a search and read a few other articals.....So after I adjust #1 do I turn the engine over a complete revolution or do I just turn it 1/3 ? Not like the crankshaft pully has degree marks ???

Just roll it over so the rocker is on the heel of the cam for each valve you are adjusting.
The way they are telling you to do it will give you brain damage.
.25mm (10 thou ") cold... smooth drag on the feeler gauge... no binding in or out, if you are really new to this, use an 11 thousandths feeler gauge.

I've always done it with the lobe of the cam pointing 180 degrees away from where the rocker contacts the cam. Worked fine for me...
Ninja Edit: And it's pretty easy to turn the engine over if you pull all the spark plugs and just turn the alternator pulley.Last edited by andyman2487; 05-12-2008, 10:54 AM.

Once you get the cover off it should be obvious where the cam is supposed to sit...if the rocker arm is sitting on the lobe of the cam, turn the damn thing until it isn't!
How I turn the motor over is a cheap little pushbutton with wires soldered on, connected to terminals 11 and 14 on the diagnostic connector. Push the button and the starter runs!
Just bump the thing over until the rocker arm is loose, then adjust as DCColegrove told you.
I use an 1/8" drillbit (or the next size smaller, ICR) to rotate the eccentric adjuster.
