Ok so I used the search function and only thing came up is procedure how to install/remove oil pan. So heres the thing, my oil pan has a small crack and instead of replacing it with a new one I guess we're going to fix it for the mean time. Its like half a cm. So while the oil pan is out for the fix, I'm going to replace the gasket. What kind should I use and where should I pick one up? Let me know your thoughts and suggestion guys! Thanks and I'm looking to buy asap!

Cork if you can, best gasket there is, otherwise usual supplied one is fine. Id use a bit of RTV silicone (gasket maker) though to make sure its a 100% seal.
If its cracked, i would replace it, its not going to be any better. If you are going to do a quick repair atleast use something like devcon to fix it. Just make sure you really wash out the pan first.Just a little project im working on

Great thanks for the tip madhatter. Yeah, not sure how much oil pan go for but that would probably be the best route huh? All M20 oil pan are interchangeable right? Auto and manual the same? Where can I get the cork gasket for a decent price and fast shipping?Comment

to tell you the truth, ive never seen an M20 auto, but i cant think why it would be any different. I cant imagine a replacement pan would cost a whole lot from a wrecker, certainly less than having it welded. Heck, have a look on the forums man, someone is probably stripping a motor or offloading a block, you might be able to grab a pan easily.Just a little project im working on

The one I got from Pelican parts was cork. The one I took off was rubber, which was a bit odd.
It is a bitch of a job to get the pan dropped down and off. It is even worse getting it back up into place without damaging the gasket and then getting the oil pump back up into place. Not a job I want to have to do again.1987 E30 325is

20w/50, 15w/40 if you want something a little thinner. Pick a brand name and stick to your oil schedule :)Just a little project im working on
