Remove starter to pull engine ?

I am pulling the m20 out of my '88 325is. The Bently manual says to remove the starter from the motor before you pick the motor out. Since it is kind of a pain to remove those starter bolts, I am wondering why I just can't disconnect the wires from the starter and pull the starter out with the motor?

    Opinions?

Are you pulling the tranny too? if not, than you do. If not, then it can stay in. I usually pull the trans and motor together and just pull the engine harness out with the motor.

Haha. I am pulling the tranny too. I assume you're saying it's OK to keep the starter on.

          WOW.

I have no excuse for that post. That's just...wow. ;)

YES - if the tranny is comin out, the starter can stay. if the tranny is stayin in, then it must be removed - but the tranny has to be unbolted anyway. ;) lol

The bolts holding the starter on, are through the block and the tranny. That is the only reason it states that you must remove the starter. The wires are a given that they will have to come off. If you are pulling them together, just leave it on and undo the wires.
