m20 vs. s52

I did the S50 swap this last year. I now smile from ear to ear every time I stab the gas. The only mistake I made was opening up the donor engine. My thoughts were since it is out...... This became a money dumping project. These engines are just so good as is, unless your donor engine has a ton of miles in it, just drop it in and have some fun!

thats very true, unless like you said you know somethings wrong with the engine. i got a free m50 out of my friends wrecked e36 and its just been sitting here forever because i started to rebuild it "since it was out" because it had 150,000 miles on it, i wouldve been better off just going for the swap as it was.

also for anyone interested in how much an m20 stroker would cost, i did mine for probably around 1000 bucks. its hard to say because i didnt spend all that money at once, or really keep good track of it. i started with my eta engine, got ahold of a super eta engine, and split the cost of an e30 325i parts car with a friend who needed some other things. between mine, the super eta, and the 325i, i had all the parts and then some. the stroker is an awesome idea if youre trying to keep the price low.

hey guys. im trying to do something with my car but i really cant decide. in the long run what would be a better idea to do. budget isnt really a problem for me but im not looking to spend 40 grand on it. i was kinda leaning to keeping the m20.. can somebody give me some advice?

All I can say is that the last 3 months with the relatively new S52 has been great! I love this car a lot better than my friends 350z. Anyway, if you have the cash, go S52 to start. I was in the same boat deciding on the M20 stroker, turbo, etc. I am glad to get the S52. I spent way too much on extra crap (Mtech II conversion, etc), but the car looks and drives great now.

You can when you take his ass on the tollway. S52 has a lot more upper torque or he just sucks driving, either way, smoked him from rolling start on tollway...

And I believe you, but i'm getting a sweet deal on a schrick intake manifold, and my friend will be port & polishing it for me dirt cheap! This way I'll have the best of both worlds (low end of the obd2+more top end & midrange then the obd1) for about $600! :woowoo:
