Car wont start Need help and advice

I have a 91 325ix and recently i have had some issues with starting the car. First I will tell you what the car did before this all started happening. The car first had an issue with starting like every 1 in 20 starts the car would sometimes just crank but not turn over. All i would have to do is pump the gas pedal and try starting it again and bingo it would start. These new issues seem to go hand in hand with what it use to do only now when i go to start it again it doesn't turn over. I know the reason it wont start is because its not getting fuel. I changed the fuel pump and the relay and thought that i had fixed it. But just a day after I thought it was fixed it did the same thing. I used a relay out of another car so I am going to get another new relay but i don't think that this is the problem because it won't start even when i jump pins 87 and 30 on the relay. So here is what i am thinking is wrong.

    1. Fuel filter is clogged and the fuel pump thinks that the pressure is high enough so it won't turn on. When the filter slowly releases the pressure then I can finally start it. (The car will start only when it is cold.)

    2. My ECU is going hay wire and I need a new one.

    3. Crank shaft sensor may be bad.

I am wondering if anyone else has ever gone through this and could lend some advice. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Fortunately, you have Motronic 1.3, which allows you to pull fault codes... this could help get you started. Do a search for 'stomp test' if this is news to you. As for the fuel filter, just go ahead and replace it. They are pretty cheap and easy to do, and you don't want to go and burn out your new pump from a badly clogged filter.
