    heres a new one

well i went to re adjust my valves today, i adjusted them about 2 weeks ago and they are too loose so i did it over this time with the spring tool. So i have my breaker bar on the crank nut and im turning it clockwise (viewing from front) and nothing is turning with the crank nut. about 3/4 of a turn on the crank nut and everything else starts turning with it. seems to me my crank nut is loose, how can i fix it, i think i know how it happened but how can i fix it?

Aren't the crank bolts supposed to be torqued to 300+ ft lbs? If it's loose, I'd say put it in gear and find the torque spec. Or you could take the oil pan off and stick a 2x4 in-between the crank and the block.

hadnt thought about putting it in gear, thats a good first plan. now i just need to find a torque wrench that will go up that high. I got it as good as i can for now with my 2 ft breaker.

it came loose i assume when i tried to do the valves last time and left my breaker bar on there and hit the starter, i thought all it did was destroy my radiator but i was apparently wrong. man i hate being stupid.

I've done that before too, no worries. That definitely shouldn't have caused the bolt to come loose, though.

Although I guess it is possible, considering how insanely strong (gearing advantage mostly I'd assume) starters are, if it can kick your car forward in gear why couldn't it bust this measly bolt loose.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be 302 Ft/Lbs on the money. Did you build the motor yourself?

When I had to break that bolt loose, I had to use a 2x4 with a HUGE breaker bar, and it was still a bitch. I had a "700 Lb" impact with a decent compressor, no luck what-so-ever.
