cant raise the engine enough to replace motor mounts

Last night when i was in the process of swapping the mounts out,

i unbolted the lower mounts and the top mounts on both sides
next when i was jacking up the motor i used a long piece of wood on top of a jack and jacked the engine underneath the oil pan.

I was able to raise the motor enough to get old the driver side mount
but not enough to put the new one in.
and the passenger side mount did not move enough .

do i need to un bolt the exhaust from the engine?
or what else should i unbolt to allow me raise the engine so i can swap the passenger side mount and put in the driver side?

    here is where im at.

one side at a time here. used an engine hoist. hooked on the engine mount arm of the side i was working on. for drivers side, i had to take the intake components off to drop the chain straight down. The job was cake.

i used the jack. I disconnected one mount and left other mount on. Lifted the same you did. With one mount in place engine tilted over the other mount.

im going to try the method where you leave one side bolted on and get the other side off because i don't have access to an engine hoist right now

same method but unbolt both lower bolts and than do one side at a time, you can jack it from the oil pan pretty high, remember to use a piece of wood though
