    Noobie with a problem...please help

Hi, I purchased a 89 325IC the other day and am trying to get it to run.

I changed out the ECU because the previous owner claimed that was what was wrong with it. Didn't help.

Checked the resistance on the coil it was OK

Put on a new distributer cap and rotor button....the ones that were on it were bad anyway and had major carbon tracks on the electrodes. Plugs are new as well as the wires, that was one plus.

While I had the cap off I checked to make sure the the rotor button was moving while I was cranking the engine. It was, so I doubt it is a broken timing belt.

I got my Haynes repair manual...came with the car...and it said to check the crank pulse sensor. I am not getting any ohms readings while probing the tabs in the connector. Shouldn't I be getting something of a reading? Do you think this could be my problem?

Any thoughts or ideas of what I should check next would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Eddie

If you aren't getting a resistance reading when probing the CPS, it is bad. And a failed CPS will prevent the engine from firing. Replace it and see what happens.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Also I checked the resistance on the coil and it was in the good range so I know the coil is good but I'm getting no power to it. 0 volts. Would a bad CPS cause that?

one problem you need to address firs is the Haynes manual. Trash it. Find a Bently and go from there.
