1984 325e DME issues! Chip help!

Hi everyone, i bought a Dinan chip for an 021/027 ecu.

Unfortunately, as i found out after taking the ecu apart, the 84 chip is soldered in there, and doesnt pop out like the other years.

I wanted to install my chip in another ECU and just throw that ECU in there.

From what i understand, any ECUs from a 85-87 325e should work with mine..
Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Which years/ecu numbers can i install in my 84 325e?
Im not sure which one (021/027) i have off the top of my head, but when i go home i can check and confirm.

    I did search!

    Thanks in advance!
    Zac

You need to do two things.

    1) Get an 027 ECU, the 021 *as you noticed* has the chip soldered on
    2) Dump that POS Dinan chip and get a MarkD or Jim C chip, which actually improves the engine throughout the rev range, and not sure WOT as the Dinan does.

Alright.. I would if i was keeping the car, but im not quite sure whether ill be keeping it or not.. plus i bought the dinan one for cheap, so i think ill just put that in.

So if i get an 027, i can just throw the chip in there and plug it in to my existing harness?

Does the year the ecu is from matter?

      Thanks
      Zac

        Yes.

        And

No, as long as it's an 027

Lemme guess, you got your "Dinan" chip off Ebay or one of the forums?

          Yeah..

          Not brand new though.
It came with the box and sticker and everything..

Thanks for all the help so far

Any '027' ECU will work fine. Remember, you can also use the '027' from the 528e's. (Been running one on my '82 528e for 2 years now.)

Ditch the 021. You'll be glad you did. It's plug and go, GO MAN GO! Sorry I get carried away sometimes.

Just for reference-not all 027 DME's have a socketed chip...the 027 DME in my '87 325 had a soldered chip, but luckily I had a spare 027 DME that was socketed so I just swapped that in.

Probably only the early 027 DME's had soldered chips, but before you buy another one you might want to double check with the seller first.
