wiring issues = gun to the head

I have two separate issues, that may be related on the 88 325i cabby. #1- Very occasionally I will go to start the car, and nothing happens when turning the key. Try several more times, then it cranks perfect and starts. This happened only once in a great while. Then...
#2- The car would up and die randomly while driving, then died and would not start. Someone said check the fuel injector harness connector. Messed with that and it started right up, seemed to be a wiring issue upstream from that connection. Car died again, jiggled the loom and started. Replaced the starter (unrelated issue), then nothing happened when turned the key. Jiggled the wiring loom where the solenoid wire enters the loom, and started. Stripped all the insulation off the loom to expose the wires and everything looks fine visually, no kinks, burns, etc.

    Any ideas from this point?
    Thanks,
    Brian
