What Brand of Timing Belt?

would you guys believe that a timing belt plus tensioner costs approx. 100 euros over here. All this when Germany is frickin' next door.

how much of that is taxes though.. not neccesarily sales tax, but taxes/duties/tarifs between the original source in germany and wherever you are.

And i haven't seen a timing belt kit by them, so I have no idea.

Yes. Their is a difference between the dealer belt and the regular conti-tech belt. The conti-tech belt you get at the dealer is made in Germany. The belt you get with a standard aftermarket conti-tech kit is made in Mexico.

The tensioners are made in Germany.

Change your timing belt every 50K and your golden.

I always used contitech, and I would have no problems using good year.

As far as Gates belts, they are more expensive and come in a kit with tensioner. They are truly great kits. That belt is actually better reinforced and stronger according to some. I took one off of my last car, and that belt had so many miles on it, I was afraid to start the car until I changed it (90k+). When I took it out it looked old as hell, it was soaked in oil leak and all other liquids that had spilled on it, but it had no cracks and no shredding.

Gates kits are only about $15-20 more expensive, but you bet your but the next kit I buy will be gates, even though I have never had a problem with contitech, after 50-60k miles you take the cover off and you know it's time.
