rod knock, when would it start? How many miles?

Since I am looking to swap motors in the next year or so, I don't want to put to much money into the 2.7. I am getting ready to do a mls gasket, head studs, and piston rings when I do the is head swap. I really do not want to pay to have the crank machined for new rod bearings. So my question is, has anybody ever developed rod knock in their car under normal situation, like just high mileage? Not because of human error, like lack of oil. And if so, how many miles where on the car when the bearing went bad.

I don't plan on putting that many miles on it next season, but the miles will be turboed beat the living shit out of it miles. Car is a track car. Then it will be swapped next winter. Thanks for any input.;)

The bottom end is pretty stout unless there is some human intervention/lack of maintence. You probably won't need the crank machined, just polished and the rods resized for new bearings. Parts and labor it's all pretty cheap stuff. I would say if you don't have a lot of experience tuning, or are pushing your setup to new limits, leave the bottom end alone for now and find a spare to build up for when you swap. Even if you are well versed in tuning it's never a bad idea to have a spare laying around.

Biggest issue you will run into is oil starvation, crankscraper/accusump is your friend.

I am not worried about having a spare block, I have a spare car for a dd. I really don't want to put more then a couple hundred into the m20. Since it is only going to be temporary. The local u-pull junkyards both get e30 i's and is's rather frequently, so the head/harness/ecu will be under a hundred bucks.

I'll probably just replace the ring's, I know they are starting to go. Do the mls gasket and arp's. If it develops rod knock, oh well.
