    "e to i

I recently found an old head from a 325i in the shop. pn on the casting is 1705885. Would this benefit me at all? What would I need to add to this to make some decent power out of my e? Im not looking to do the whole motor swap because i heard its a PITA.

    Thanks for the help

it's not a PITA at all

and slapping an 885 head on your eta will not increase power that much

Really? Well what would I need to make a significant difference with the i head.

The motor swap would include rewiring and all that fun stuff right? PITA

well the wiring for the eta and the i is different, correct? I would need wiring schematics, which I don't have. And knowledge of how to read those pages. The motor is a direct fit? No modifications are needed? I would also need an ecu, correct? How long do you think it would take to swap an i motor into an eta?

Well......the how long question is premature if you're still asking how. Swapping motors is a little drastic for a little more power. If you really want to do a swap I would find a donor i motor with harness still attached. Then all you would have to do is make the one main connection by the fusebox. You need the ecu too. If your car is a manual tranny then you will want the whole flywheel and clutch assy for the i. Do a search for the swap and a good site is http://www.strictlyeta.net/ There is a write up. BTW, an experienced mechanic could probably do the swap in about 4 hours.

            Is your car bent?

Thanks. If I do the swap i will have a 25+ year BMW mechanic overlooking the process. What is the difference between a harness that is not attached or attached?

              Bent?

AFM, intake manifold, ECU, head, and a few other little odds and ends from the i motor and thata all you would need for the swap.

So if I take the i Head and put the i Manifold with a MAF conversion and an ecu from an i, I should make considerably more power? or how much more?

                    Search.

No joke, this has been covered so many times before.

                        search more

you wouldn't make that much more power with your stock block, the CR will be too low.

So you want to wire up a MAF convertion, but can't find or read a wiring diagram? c'mon...

The reason YOU want the harness all attached is that you won't have to find all of the sensors, injectors, afm, tps, etc to connect to. Just dropping an i engine in would give you about the same power as swapping the head, manifold, afm, harness, ecu, which is everything but the block from an i.

The link I gave you should have answered all your questions. Go to the technical menu and look for the e to i and the M20 2.8 conversion write-ups.

You really need to practice your search skills. This stuff is all over the forum. Hint: search for 2.7 stroker.

Oh yeah, bent, the body line from your rear door to the rear fender aint straight. Looks like your car got ass-packed during its lifetime.

you could take the dual valve springs and cam from the i head and have it put in to the e head along with 3 oil journals drilled. and then chip it
