    Twist and push down......HARD.

The last 2 motors I took apart intake came off with head, but heads had to come off anyway so I didnt try real hard.

    Good luck.

yeah i use to hate taking the intake manifold off, untill one day i got pissed at the breather and shoved it into the crank case hard. and the crankcase held it in place, makes removing and installing it much eaiser.

Yeah on one of my E30's I changed the head with the intake attached due to a broken rocker arm and after the head was torqued I forgot that tube and had to loosen the head to put the tube on. I couldn't get it without doing that

Tell me you did not use that same head gasket.

yes I did and used the same head bolts too. It was a fix and sell car that i got for $300. Sold it for $1500 after a couple bushings and a new head. Still runs fine

You are supposed to use special bmw tool # a bigass screwdriver and/or the handle of a hammer.

you can wedge it in as you push on the intake. forget loosening the head it just takes alot of elbow grease and every curse word u know. i did this at eleven pm on a sunday when i had to drive my car to work the next day that sucked ass let me tell ya. btw its surprising how easy it is to dent ur fenders when you punch them. i still think about that every time i look at my dented driver's side fender lol

You don't need to loosen the head at all or anything like that. With the spring fully compressed, there is easily enough room. For the removal, it would probably help to have two people, one to hold the tube down and one to slide the intake manifold off.

For the install, you can just use two small zipties to compress the spring, like so:

Once you have the intake manifold on, just clip the ties and pull them out.

Don't forget to reinstall the two O-rings (one on top and one on bottom) and the bottom washer.
