revs drop, car jerks, been searching for 2 weeks

need to try that, i am narrowing it down still, the problem is intermittent spark. I just replaced the rotor button for starters but no help. spark works off and on, does that sound familiar to anyone? and does that rule out a CPS?

Just got out of the garage, the problem continues, this is now week four of having no BMW and week 2 of having no car to drive. Putting grease on the relays did help it to run but the cutting out problem continued. I banged on every connection i could find and nothing changed.

My brother and his buddies are all Porsche guys who have mostly 944/951s. These cars use Motronic and Bosch electrical like ours, and I've heard lots of stories about intermittent injection electrical issues being fixed by re-soldering the DME board and making sure the main harness connectors are in good shape. Especially since your problems started after your 1.3 swap, maybe look at the computer and it's connections if you're satisfied that the problem isn't underhood.

I found my problem--loose battery negative. Duh. But it looked tight...

ordered a "tested" guarenteed computer, maybe the connections are bad but it worked for a solid 2 weeks without a problem after the swap.

also, when i punch the gas from idle it stumble and the cut out problem occurs, idk if it the vibrations of the motor or what.

I had a bad ground that caused similar symptoms. The one from the oil pan to the subframe.

Pull spark plug wires one at a time from distribuitor cap and clean the connections. Be sure wires are seated correctly in cap. I solved a nagging problem by doing this. Good luck.

This thread is just what I was hoping to find on here.. Im having very similar problems with my 91 325. Also it cuts out just like a rev limiter at about 5k rpm. Im going to address as much of whats covered in this thread this afternoon and see what happens.

Does not rule out CPS. I just got done getting my car running again.

The CPS was bad. The wire had been eaten halfway through.

Car would start every now and then and die 2 seconds later. Wasn't getting spark. Changed everything that involved spark(wires, plugs, dist cap and rotor, ignition coil) and it did nothing until I changed the CPS. It's a $50 part, and you already said that yours is cracked.

Just replaced CPS, didn't help anything. this sucks,lol. 2 monjths, still no e30.

At this point, I'd probably just take it to a mechanic.

Check your distributor cap and rotor, might be loose and or corroded.

I am a mechanic, i need an electrician or someone who specializes in electronic diagnosis.
