        it will say what the transmission on it somewhere, but you might not be able to see it because it is in the car

            ZF S5-16 i just found this on some website it said these transmissions came in early model 318i's and mine is deffenitly an early model when i search the vin# it says it was made in 84

                was only the motor swapped? or did the po swap the transmission too?

                    This is more than likely the problem. I believe I remember hearing the getrag 245 is shorter but I don't remember where I heard that.

                    OP, get a hold of a getrag 260. They are readily available and hell you could see the 245 and buy the 260
